Paoli Dam was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, to a Bengali family from Faridpur district, Bangladesh. His father and mother are Amol and Papiya Dam respectively. She also has a brother, Mainak.
She also has a brother named Mainak. She did her schooling in Kolkata and was a very bright student. Later, she completed her graduation with a degree in chemistry followed by her post-graduation in chemistry from Rajabazar Science College, Kolkata. During this time, she also learned classical dancing and was mostly interested in theatre.
She started her career in 2004 with Bengali television megaserial Jibon Niye Khela. In the next couple of years, she worked in few more Bengali television serials like Tithir Atithi, Sonar Harin. The mega-serial Tithir Atithi ran for 6 years in ETV Bangla.

Career
During this time, she also learned classical dancing and was mostly interested in theatre. In the year 2003, she started her acting career with television and was seen in the television serial, Jibon Niye Khela. Her next TV serial was Tithir Atithi which ran for almost 6 years. Some of her next television serials included Tarpor Chand Uthlo, Sonar Harin, and Jaya. It was then when she got prominence and was willing to make her debut in the film industry.
In 2006, she got her first acting opportunity with the Bengali film Agnipariksha in a supporting role. Next in 2007, she was seen in the film Tulkalam opposite actors Mithun Chakraborty and Rachana Banerjee. Finally, it was in the film Kaalbela directed by Goutam Ghose which gave her success.
She played the role of Madhabilata, the girlfriend of a Naxalite leader and received immense appreciation for her performance. Also, it was a turning point in her career. Paoli was next seen in films like Jamai Raja, Box No. 1313, Shob Charitro Kalponik, and Tinmurti.
In 2012, she made her Bollywood debut with the film Hate Story and at the same time was featured in three Bengali films, Bedroom, Elai Char Adhyay, and Teen Yaari Katha. Some of her Bollywood movies include Ankur Arora Murder Case, Gang of Ghosts, Yaara Silly Silly, Bulbbul, and Raat Baaki Hai.
